Solar Leadership Across Two Wineries
In 2008, J. Lohr invested $5 million to install a 756 kW solar tracking array at Paso Robles—the largest in the North American wine industry at the time. We've since added a 921 kW flat-mount system at our Greenfield winery in Monterey County, bringing our total solar capacity to over 1.6 megawatts.

“We forecasted its savings over time and made a significant investment. Sustainability isn't just good ethics—it's good business.”
— Cynthia Lohr, Chief Brand Officer
Every Drop Counts
Pioneering Water Stewardship Since 1972
J. Lohr was one of the first California vineyards to adopt drip irrigation 50 years ago. Today, we use just 1.3 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of wine—when the industry norm was 5 to 7 gallons. Our wastewater recycling program has cut vineyard water use by another 20-30%.

Farming in Harmony with Nature
Healthy soil grows exceptional grapes. Our integrated pest management, cover cropping, and biodiversity initiatives create thriving ecosystems where vines flourish naturally. We work with the land, not against it.

“My father grew up on a South Dakota farm. The lesson that the land rewards those who respect it—that's in our DNA.”
— Steve Lohr
Certified Commitment
Among the First 17 in California
Anyone can claim to be sustainable. We prove it. J. Lohr was among the first 17 California vineyards and wineries to earn the Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing designation. We even helped write the first chapters of the certification process.
